  Some buildings I did.

Hi everybody. I'm an American but I fucking love Germany, from Bernd das Brot to Ostrock. My German is shit since it's at the most rudimentary level, so I'll just run it through a translator and leave the original below this one. Anyone, I'm sorry if this was the wrong place to post this thread or anything. Anyway, these are some buildings I made for a map mod of a small town in Germany I'm fixing to do for V, and since I already joined to ask someone about their vehicles, I might as well post these for critique, comments, etc. I haven't textured them yet, though. The top picture is of some townhouses, the second is a supermarket I based off a Faller kit.

Welcome to GTA Berlin!

You don't need to translate your english into german. Most of us can read english.
My english isn't the best at all, but i hope you can understand it.
Your buildings look great. At this point the architecture is quite simple but i like the details you added. It looks like you are working with gmax or 3ds max, is this right? Do you have any experience in texturing models? I would love to see more projects.
We do a 1:1 conversion of Berlin. We can use any support we can get. Therefore you don't actually have to live in berlin. For example I do not live in berlin too. we have a lot of tools which can help modelers creating detailed buildings or other things like parks, railstations, ... (like blueprints of the top view, google street view, photographers who will take pictures of buildings which can later also be used as textures, ...)

I'm looking forward to see more...

Well that's a relief. I didn't want to impose my English on you folks at first, but glad to know I won't be hung from the rafters for it.

Thanks for the words about the structures. They're supposed to be the kinds of buildings you'd see in modern suburbs, all clean and proper. Yes, I am working in 3dsmax. I'm familiar with texturing, such as the model of the snackbar from New Kids I did below (which I'll probably remake in the same style as the other ones I made). The only things I can't do, though, are collisions and getting it ingame.

I've noticed that 1:1 conversion aswell. I think it's pretty neat and all, but I've always had trouble doing 1:1 things in the sense that they don't always leave room for creative freedom, along with the lengthy time it takes to get stuff together. However, if you're in need of small towns surrounding it, I'm all up for helping out. Bellow is some street plan for some small town I've been thinking about putting these buildings into. It's pretty rough now, but eventually it'll get smoothed out, I hope. Which brings me to my next point, anyone familiar with some small town called Meyenburg? It's about an hour north of Berlin and if anyone can get house references and other stuff from there, I'll love you forever.

And yes, I named the snackbar after a City song.

Some new building I did - a Bungalow. I gotta figure out a good place to get textures for it and either I can start to texturing it or find more buildings to make. This one I based off a Kibri kit.

...and the Snackbar in better quality. It could probably be refitted into some takeaway or some other food joint.

Hey and welcome to gta:berlin fröhlich
Like JKM already said, I like how you can make it to add sweet details to very easy shapes smile
I think we can't help you with Meyenburg... for me its to far away sorry schräg
But I have to correct JKM in one point: we are making a 1:1 conversion in the first look. But there ist space for creativity everywhere. For example the backyards or underground- and construction-areas. Just Ping us if you want to be a part in this enormeous project smile there is a lot to do and a lot possibilities to give this mod your personal touch smile

I'm all for helping out yeah, but I don't want to be stuck doing high rises or any crazy commercial stuff. I don't mean to undermine all the great commercial stuff that's been done, believe me, but if I could pick some map-wise aspect of the map I could do (sans radio, plot stuff, characters, etc.), I'd want to do suburban stuff, which is what I intended most of my buildings to depict.

Speaking of suburban stuff, I know Berlins got a good deal of them and I haven't even visited (yet). So given that, what is your take on how the suburbs should be handled? Should they be:

A) Like the rest of the map, an accurate depiction of each suburban street and house
B) Use creative license to the max to do general looking suburbs depending on the part of the city (commie tower blocks in the east, modern stuff like what I've got in the west) and to keep people from playing and going HOW DARE THEY MAKE MY HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION!

If the latter, I'm all up for it. It shouldn't be too hard either, considering that most of the houses I've done are supposed to be repeated and shouldn't take too long to fill an area. So in short, I am willing to extend a hand if I've got the OK to work on suburbs, as well as see if someone can help put collision to it and get it ingame. If all goes well, I'll get what I've got textured before I send it over to whoever needs it smile

While I'm waiting for some news, here's some Q3A Panel House I did, could be useful to fill some space up in the former East Berlin.

this brings me to a good idea smile what do you think about this suggestion:
I search for a small area in this big area we are working at. I'm thinking about an area with alot of these panel buildings or the similar concrete buildings. and in this area you can create buildings which fit the style of the area but the details are in your hand. So you try to orientate on the basic shape and style of the buildings and then you can create them.
Because the experience shows that you cant "fill" a map with general buildings because they are allway a bit tricky to fit in.
And so we can create a perfect compromisse between your creativity and hekp for us grinsen

What do you guys think? all the others are asked too Augenzwinkern

because i really like your models and it would be great to get some support fröhlich

From what I've seen, there's bungalow houses like the one I made (and a two story version I haven't shown yet) in the western parts like Spandau and thereabouts and it'd be better to use those instead of creeping around some suburbs taking pictures. But Spandau and that area's a good distance away, so I guess we'll address that when we get there.

So I take it, if you're wanting panel buildings, you're going to be making the former East Berlin? That's pretty nice and yeah, I'm all for helping out. But like I mentioned before, I'll need someone who can add collision to it and put it ingame, so all I can do is just the model and texture (I'll be using edits of SA's textures unless anything better is suggested). But yeah, give me a general area, design, etc. and I'll give it a go.

Also, of wondering, where on this forum should I post my stuff for the soundtrack, plot, character models, etc. or just keep them here?

Oh boy, more stuff.

An East German-esque commie block based on a P2 Apartment. It isn't visible at the angle, but the roof is angled downwards in the middle a bit like the real ones. Tops off at 3,000ish polys last I checked.

I like trabbis idea. Like i messenged you we can use your models in our map. You don't have to do 1:1 buildings. Of course in berlin there are several areas where we need realistic models to fit the style. I'm looking forward to see your buildings in several spots in the map. You dont have to do the mapping neither you need to do the collisions. Trabbi can do this stuff for you! Btw. I like the grade of details of your buildings. It fits perfect to the grade of our models!

Geschrieben von universetwisters am 06.09.2015 um 06:13:

Sure yeah. Like I told you in the message, I'll texture the buildings and send them your way in 1-2 days.

Awesome smile you can send them to me via mail or you upload them and send me the link via pm or mail. Just how you prefer Augenzwinkern
My mail address is: trabbi_601s@gtaberlin.de

Looking forward to your modelgrinsen and when I finished my thesis I will go and search for an area for you and take some pictures for orientation smile

I can just imagine my stuff would fit more in the suburbs of what would've been East Berlin.

Also, textured one of the two buildings I'll send over to JKM later today.

A new building I did, a couple of shops for some small town I'm doing for V. Around 663ish polys.

Well done! I like your buildings großes Grinsen . We just have to find a way, how we can integrate your skills and knowledge in this project. Whats about GDR-buildings we can find in Berlin Mitte?

As far as GDR Buildings go, I already did two apartment blocks I sent to Trabi, so I can imagine they'll fill quite a hole so far.
